Waffle Maker
While it’s technically a single use appliance and we like multi-use appliances, we love waffles.
Wild blueberry waffles, savoury potato waffles, breakfast potato waffles…the possibilities are endless.
We don’t like teflon-coated waffle irons. This is a non-stick ceramic that is PFOA and PTFE free.
Kitchen Knives
A good knife is well worth the investment. My husband loves to cook. We also travel a lot. If we are away for any extended period, the knives come too.
This prep set is a great starter. You don’t need all kinds of knives. Honestly, a good sized cook’s knife and a decent paring knife will cover most general needs.
Wool Dryer Balls
Wool dryer balls are a chemical free alternative to fabric softener. They also reduce the need to iron.
Made from 100% organic New Zealand wool with no chemicals or additives. No synthetic fragrance either! Dwellness approved!
Glass Straws
I love these reusable glass straws from Glass Dharma. The slight bend makes them easier to drink from. I love being able to see the smoothie passing through the straw but let’s face it…the transparency is also practical from a cleaning point of view as we can see if we need to pass the “pipe cleaner” through it.
Garlic Press
Mince garlic in seconds with this robust press. In our house we use our garlic press every day, sometimes several times a day so we need it to function well and be long lasting.
“Garlic is one of the world’s oldest medicines and is an incredibly potent spice that can ward off a variety of illnesses and diseases. It has amazingly high levels of vitamins and minerals including vitamin C and B-6 and minerals such as selenium, calcium, and iron. Garlic also contains very strong antibiotic, anti-fungal, anti-cancer, and anti-viral properties.” -Medical Medium
Citrus Squeezer
We start each day off with 16-32 oz of lemon water. We also juice a lot of citrus for salad dressings, dips and more so this comes in handy each and every day.
High-Speed Blender
Our favourite (and most-used) kitchen tool makes healthy eating so EASY!
I love the timed smoothie preset that goes through different speeds and automatically switches off once the smoothie is ready.
We own this Designer 625 model in Polar White. The designer in me loves the white and bright appliances as they are stylish enough to adorn your countertop.
Compostable Sponge Cloths
Even cleaning can be kind…kind to your body, kind to your home, kind to the planet.
I use and reuse these sponge cloths for house cleaning. I machine wash them along with my rags and haven’t experienced any issues doing so. As the packaging says, they are machine washable up to 300 times so they last and when you finally do retire them, you can rest assured knowing they are 100% compostable.
Plant-Based Scouring Pad
Even cleaning can be kind…kind to your hands, kind to your home, kind to the planet.
Twist makes plant-based cleaning tools.
They are committed to contributing to a cleaner world by thinking about what their products are made of and what happens to them after they are disposed of.
“Dyes and glues in traditional cellulose sponges can be harmful to our environment and polyester scrubbers never disappear from landfills. We wanted to provide consumers with a better option.
Twist Clean uses 100% plant based materials in the manufacturing of our residential cleaning tools. We get the wood pulp for our cellulose from FSC Certified sources and all of our scrubbers are hand sewn onto their cellulose bases.”
I also think about the impact of a product on our bodies. Plant-based non-toxic ingredients also mean these products care for us as we care for our homes and our world.
Zester
We love to cook so non-toxic cleaning tools that are made of sustainable materials are important to us.
The frame of this zester is made with organic moso bamboo. Although technically a grass, the bamboo fibre when mixed with resin and starch make it as durable as steel.
The entire zester is BPA, Melamine, PVC, and Phthalate free, and is completely biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable.
The zester is ideal for zesting citrus or grating hard cheeses (parmesan!) and ginger.
Dishwasher safe.
Grater
We love to cook so non-toxic cleaning tools that are made of sustainable materials are important to us.
The frame of this grater is made with organic moso bamboo. Although technically a grass, the bamboo fibre when mixed with resin and starch make it as durable as steel.
The Microplane EcoGrate Series was designed with the environment in mind. The entire grater is BPA, Melamine, PVC, and Phthalate free, and is completely biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable.
This one has a coarse blade, which is ideal for grating cheese, carrots, ginger, coconut, and nuts.
Dishwasher safe.
Glass Jars
Great for food storage if you prefer an option with a glass lid. I also use them for storing my homemade cleaning scrubs.
Food Processor
Another work horse in our kitchen. We love to cook but we don’t like having all sorts of single-use appliances taking up space.
We resisted getting a food processor for a long time…opting to use our high speed blender instead. The truth is, finally getting a food processor was so helpful. Now we can make pesto, ice cream, falafels, veggie burger mix and cauliflower rice etc. so much quicker and easier.
We also waved the white flag on cutting up veggies manually and started shredding our cabbages and running our potatoes and sweet potatoes etc. through the processor for the perfect slice every time.
Mason Jar Lids
One of the reasons why I like these mason jar lids is that they don’t rust like the regular lids can do. These lids, called 'iLids’ (ha!), are made of food-safe polypropylene #5 that is free of BPA, BPS and Phlatates. They are recycled and recyclable and made in North America.
The Drink lids are really helpful for me when I’m out and about. I usually have a homemade smoothie on hand and the slide along opening/closing mechanism, as well as the straw hole, make it easy to keep my healthy habits up on the go.
Reusable Produce Bags
We really started to prioritise the use of these mesh produce bags when we lived in the UAE.
The amount of plastic produce bags we saw being used was…disheartening. Sickening really. We knew we could do our part by making the switch so I bought a set of these mesh bags.
I always got questions from the staff and fellow customers about where to get them etc. so I think it got some people thinking about making the switch too.
Either way, we are absolute converts. I love these bags. I do wash them regularly in the machine. I’ve never had any issues doing so.
High Speed Blender
Old faithful! We started out with a Vitamix blender and we loved it. When we went to live overseas, we bought a Blendtec. There are features that I like on both blenders, specifically the speed control on the Vitamix.
If you already have a Vitamix, you can now get a Blendtec jar to fit the Vitamix. The Blendtec jar is wider overall, making it a little easier to empty out and clean.
Overall, you can’t go wrong with either the Vitamix or the Blendtec if you are in the market for a high-speed blender.
Reusable Water Bottle
The large 32oz capacity and the transparent glass helps me keep track of my daily water intake. I personally love a glass bottle as I don’t have to worry about any nasties leaching into my water from plastic and metal alternatives. This bottle is dishwasher safe.
Reusable To-Go Cup
No-plastic, reusable to-go cup…healthier for you and the planet!
“The 16oz reusable Joco Cup is Artisan blown from thermal shock resistant borosilicate glass and features a medical grade silicone lid and sleeve. Refuse all plastic and enhance your coffee ritual. 100% plastic-free, certified non-toxic, antibacterial, microwave & dishwasher safe.”
Checks all the boxes.
Reusable Water Bottle
I’ll let the description speak for itself here…
“The 20oz Joco Flask is Artisan blown from high-grade borosilicate glass and features a naturally antibacterial olive wood lid & velvet touch non-slip grip for a refined drinking experience. Certified non-toxic, stain & odour resistant.”
Non-toxic, naturally anti-bacterial, no plastic…you’re speaking my language. Many of the glass reusable bottles I come across have plastic lids so I love that these ones don’t. You know I’m a sucker for form and function and these bottles are so stylish, which adds to the appeal for me.
